VAV Diffusers - Acutherm Therma-Fuser

The pioneering technology of Therma-Fuser™ air grilles provides individual comfort in both heating and cooling applications. Therma-Fusers™ are ceiling air diffusers operating as an integrated Variable Air Volume (VAV), zone of temperature control providing superior air distribution and maximising energy savings without compromising human comfort.

Each Therma-Fuser™ air diffuser is an independent zone of VAV control including thermostat, modulating damper and diffuser in a single package. Unlike conventional building controls, Therma-Fuser™ air diffusers have no complicated electronics or pneumatics, and as a result require no maintenance.

Therma-Fuser™ VAV (Variable Air Volume) diffusion dampers open and close to regulate air flow into the room in response to room temperature. The dampers are mechanically actuated by thermal element thermostats.

Each thermal element thermostat is a small brass cylinder containing petroleum-based wax. The wax expands when heated, driving a piston out. A spring retracts the piston when the wax cools and retracts. The movement of the piston either opens or closes the air dampers in a proportional manner.

Average room temperature is monitored by inducing a sample of air from the center of the room across the thermal element thermostats.

Because this air sample is drawn directly from the air circulation pattern in the room, just before it mixes with air flowing into the room, it better represents average room temperature than air at a wall thermostat.

With Therma-Fuser™ air grilles, room temperature throughout the room can be held within 1° C of the temperature selected. Temperature of the room is selected between 21° and 26° C by adjusting the thermal element thermostat.
